A DPA story from today that updates, most recently, yesterday's pair...
With a ceasefire ending the 20-year civil war in northern Uganda due to expire [on] Wednesday, Uganda's government was [on] Tuesday discussing an extension with the [Lord's] Resistance Army.
Talks to end the conflict that has displaced nearly two million civilians and left thousands dead achieved the landmark ceasefire in August, but a final peace treaty has been delayed.
Government peace team leader, Deputy Foreign Minister Henry Okello, said [that] a meeting would be held from March 2 to 5 in southern Sudan's main town of Juba.
'There is hope for the extension of the ceasefire period. The LRA is sending two delegates to the meeting,' Okello told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
The talks mediated by Sudan hit a stalemate when the rebels demanded that the venue of the negotiations be shifted to either South Africa or Kenya, claiming Sudanese bias against them.
The Ugandan government has since refused to accept the demand and army officials said that a group of LRA fighters led by their top leaders have since fled to the Central African Republic.
