New Additions to "Sudan-Related RSS Feeds" and "Zimbabwe-Related RSS Feeds"--Plus a Revamping of "RSS Feeds of News from Africa"
It's become harder and harder for me to keep on top of maintaining the batch of widget-based RSS feeds of news from Africa; for that reason--and because I've started to think that the batch had become too sprawling--I've decided to revamp it so that it only includes multiple feeds from a handful of pan-African news/community/portal sites. (For those who had used the batch to find new RSS feeds, among the feeds that I've found recently that I wasn't able to add are ones for the "New Liberian", Liberia's Star Radio, Nigeria's "PM News", the "Accra Daily Mail", "Modern Ghana", the "Vibe Ghana" blog, The Gambia's "Point", The Gambia's "Freedom Newspaper", Botswana's "Sunday Standard", SmallShop's Africa section, Ethiopia's Walta Information Center, the South African Civil Society Information Service, and the Africa Science News Service. [Updated {originally}, on Sunday, because I had neglected to mention both the Africa feed for the UAE's recently launched "National" and the feed for the all-but-hidden Africa "Breaking News" section on the "Irish Independent" site, which is separate from the site's primary Africa feed.])
Separately, the feeds for Andrew Heavens' blog, Blake Evans-Pritchard's blog, GI-Net's "Genocide Monitor", and Caring for Kaela--all of which had been in the Africa batch--have been moved over into the big, big batch of Sudan-related RSS feeds (with Caring for Kaela's separate feed of aggregated news also being added). In addition, category-based feeds from Sean Jacobs' blog and the African Press Organization blog (plus country-specific feeds from African Path's "Cheetah Index" subsite) have been added to both the Sudan batch and the similar batch of Zimbabwe-related RSS feeds. (Updated [further], on Sunday, to note that a second Zimbabwe-specific feed for Sean Jacobs' blog has since been added; the one that was added originally is category-based, while the one that was added later is, instead, tag-based. Currently, there's very little overlap in listings between the two feeds.)
Also, feeds for the Sudan Online News and Information Centre, Save Darfur's new official blog (separate from the old one), the Darfur Radio Project, the Wunlang School Project's blog, the New Sudan Education Initiative's blog, and "Sudanese Returnee" have been added to the Sudan batch--while a category-based feed for Rethabile Masilo's blog, the feed for Pray Zimbabwe, and the feed for "Mugabe Makaipa" have been added to the Zimbabwe batch.
Finally, I hope to be able to create a Somalia-related batch of feeds in the near future; in the interim (if you aren't already), check out Shabelle, Garowe Online, Hiiraan Online, SomaliNet, Somaliweyn, Somali Press Review, Adwal News, and Geeska Afrika. - EJM
